1. What is your attitude toward Nora at the beginning of the play?  How does your attitude toward her change as the play progresses?  What actions and lines of dialogue change your assessment of her?

2. List the key events that have occurred before the start of the play.  How do we learn of each event?

3.  In act 2, Torvald says, "Whatever comes, you'll see:  when it really counts, I have strength and courage enough as a man to take on the whole weight myself."  How does this statement influence Nora's subsequent actions?

4.  Is Kristine Linde as much of a "modern woman" as Nora?  Is she actually more of a modern woman?  Is she essential to the play?  How might the play be different without her?

5.  Note in the play that Torvald does not see women as equal to men.  However, what do you think that men should bring to a

marriage?  What do you think that women should bring to a marriage?  Where do your values come from?

6. Secrets are a part of this play.  What secrets do you think should or should not be shared in a marriage? Where do your values come from?

7. Write a one-page monologue of one of the characters:  Nora, Torvald, Dr. Rank, Kristine Linde, Krogstad.  When you have chosen a character, explore how one of these relates to this character:  survival, debt, sacrifice, duty.
