Communication
Canvas Conversations, also know as Inbox or Messages, is the messaging tool used instead of email to communicate in a course, a group, an individual, or a group within the Canvas system. You can communicate with other people in your course at any time.
Use Conversations to:
• Send a message to someone in your course
• Send a message to your entire class (if allowed)
• Send a message to members of a group
• Reply to messages from others in your course
• Filter conversations by course or type
• View and reply to assignment submission comment
Email is external to Canvas. It is similar to traditional mail in that you have an address that you send and receive messages. You must login to a separate system to use email and can only communicate from one email address to another. You cannot send an email to a users Conversation Inbox in Canvas.
**However, a user may receive an email notification that they were sent a Conversation in Canvas. This would be set up by each user within your system preferences in Canvas. You can reply from that email notification and it be received by the user in Conversations. It will not necessarily be sent to their email address.**
