HOMEPAGE
Welcome to Principles of Biology Lab
Welcome to Principles of Biology Lab!
This is the first course in a series designed to help you develop a strong foundation in the biological sciences to build on throughout your studies at Hinds Community College and beyond. This lab is designed to develop and enhance your independent, investigative skills as a biologist by giving you hands on, practical experience in expanding your science process skills. This semester, you engage in scientific investigations in major conceptual areas in biology. You will also develop written communication skills critical to effective transfer of information in biology.
I am your instructor:
Dr. Einna M. Robinson
601-857-3409
Office Hours: MONDAY 8:00 to 12:00 pm; Friday 8-10AM
A Note from Dr. Robinson:
I am glad that you decided to come to Hinds CC for your educational endeavors! This course is taught as 100% online course. This course uses virtual labs or simulations and online tutorials/activities to help you with learning concepts. This portion of the course offers you the opportunity to explore and apply concepts to answer research questions. Success in the laboratory involves designing and conducting experiments, performing pre-lab and lab activities and report writing. In addition, you will conduct activities designed to develop and improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills related to the topics discussed in lectures.
Here is what to expect:
This course will have regular weekly assignments due, readings, and course materials. This is not a self-paced course--it's important that you keep on top of the weekly assignments! Each of you must manage your own time each week to know when assignments, and any other weekly course obligations, are due. This will involve regularly logging into Canvas to check discussion forums and communications, monitoring your campus email address, and virtually interacting with classmates, instructors, and course materials. At this point, I suggest the following actions:
-
-
- Log into Canvas and begin to familiarize yourself with the Canvas
- Make sure you've confirmed your email address in the Canvas system, so you can receive messages and announcements I'll be sending
- Check out your Canvas Calendar for assignment due dates, so you can plan your semester accordingly. You can access the Calendar from the left-hand global navigation bar.
- Read through the Syllabus, so you know the rhythm of course, and what is expected.
-
As you get started, I'm happy to answer any questions that may arise, or point you to our tech support for more technical questions. I will send announcements on Monday, I look forward to working with you this semester and getting off to a strong start!
Best,
Dr. Robinson
