Getting Started Page for Lecture

WELCOME TO BIO 1113 Principles of Biology I Lecture Online!   Instructor Dakin

Please read everything to try to answer your questions before contacting me.

Here is how the course is set up.  On the left side of this page you see several buttons: home, announcements, syllabus, modules, grades & Hinds Information. Here is a brief overview of the content of each button.

Home: At any time you are “lost“ in the course return to the “Home” location.

Announcements: Will be posted as needed. Be sure to check anouncements daily or at least every few days.  Canvas will alert you of changes within the course and you will also be able to see them under that tab.

Syllabus:  The syllabus gives the due dates for everything required of you this semester. Look at and follow the syllabus. Also, under modules is a Class\Course Schedule to print and post for reference.

Modules: The modules contain information about Distance Learning, the Course Policy, the Instructor, the College and your Lessons\Assignments. Each module has the instructions for that particular lesson. Navigate through the course via the modules. Everything you need to access for each week will be loaded into the module and connected by links. There is no need to go under any other tabs unless you are look for something specifically and do not want to have to maneuver through the modules to find it.

Grades: Yes, your grades are here!

Hinds Information: This module has all the basic information for HCC Distance Learning.

What is expected of you each week??  Each week you will have an assignment page. Generally you should read the objectives for the chapter and then I recommend reading the summary, then read the chapter.  The questions at the end of the chapter are a good review for the quiz. The link to the quiz will be located at the bottom of each instructions page.  Remember that you may open the quiz, answer questions and save it as many times as you like but you are only allowed one submission.  Once you submit the quiz it will be graded immediately and not reset for any reason. You will have two proctored exams this semester, a midterm and a final exam. They will consist of information that you learned from each quiz.

If you have questions, first reread informational modules (Distance Learning Information, Course Information, Hinds Information) to see if your question is answered there. If your question is not answered there, then email and I will respond in a timely manner. Your email will be answered within 48 hours except on weekends and holidays. My email is ohdakin@hindscc.edu
