Proctored Exams
General Information
- You will have two proctored exams this semester:
- Essay 2 will be taken during Week 4.
-
Essay 5 (the Final Exam) will be taken during Week 8. Since this is a composition class, both exams will be essays. I will give you plenty of information beforehand regarding the type of essay, but you will not have the exam prompts until you reach the exam site and are checked in by the proctor.
- The only permitted materials are a dictionary and a thesaurus. You may not bring your textbook or any notes to the exam.
Proctored Exam Procedure for This Class
- Please view the videos on proctored exams posted in the Distance Learning Policies and Procedures page and download the file proctored_test_info.pdf
Download proctored_test_info.pdf. The videos will show you how to change your profile and settings so that SmarterProctoring offers you the most convenient proctoring sites. The file will give you an overview of the policies and procedures for proctored tests.
- Register at a MSVCC proctored site for a two-hour exam time during the exam window.
To register, click on the SmartProctoring tab at the bottom of the class menu.
Please note that you should register at least 48 hours in advance. Check the list of proctored sites (https://sbcjcweb.sbcjc.cc.ms.us/msvccvisitor/proctor_listing.asp Links to an external site.) to note when they are open. - Go to your proctored site on the scheduled date and show your photo identification.
- Once you are logged into the class, you will click on the Quiz section or the Modules List and choose either Essay 2 or Final Exam. The proctor will type in the password, and then you will have access to the essay questions.
- According the proctor at Hinds, you are allowed to type your essay in Microsoft Word and then copy-and-paste it into the answer box. This will allow you to set up the correct format and use the spell checker. Please note that you will not be allowed to upload a file as you will do for essays that you complete at home. You must write and submit your essay within a two hour period.
- Since the copy-and-paste function can sometimes changing formatting, I will be a little lenient on formatting issues for proctored exams. (Be sure to check the formatting before you submit!) However, I will not be lenient with regard to any other issue, such as grammar.
Other information from the Distance Learning Office:
Don’t live close to a MS Community College?
Any student needing to proctor outside of a community college in Mississippi or a preapproved location, should locate a proctor in their area using SmarterProctoring at least 7 working days prior to the exam date. Once you locate a proctor near you, you will then go through the request process in SmarterProctoring. If a proctor is not available in your area through SmarterProctoring, please contact the eLearning office immediately. It is recommended to start this process at the beginning of the semester so you do not run into obstacles. Also, it is your responsibility of any fees that may be required by a proctoring center that is not one of the 55 Mississippi Community College proctored testing locations
