Unit 2 Goals and Objectives
1. The student will compare the portraits of God in 1:1‑2:4a to Genesis 2:4b‑3:25, particularly in regard to what they say about Israel’s understanding of God.
2. The student will explain what a theophany is and how theophanies are portrayed in the Book of Genesis.
3. The student will explain the significance of the story of Noah and the Flood as found in Genesis 6‑9.
4. The student will describe and explain the significance of the two covenant ceremonies between God and Abraham. (Gen. 15:7-21, 17:1-14).
5. The student will relate the story of Jacob and explain significant events, including the story of his birth, the means by which he gained his birthright, his journey to Paddan-aram, his marriages and his relationship with Laban, and his journey back and meeting with his brother Esau.
6. The student will relate the Joseph story from Genesis 37‑50, from the time of his youth until his death.
7. The student will give an account of Moses's encounter with the Lord in Exodus 3‑4:20.
8. The student will list the Ten Commandments as found in Exodus 20 and explain the significance of The Ten Commandments.
9. The student will relate the major concerns of the books of Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
10. The student will describe the significance of the priestly ritual for the Day of Atonement.
